Metal Case

For what seemed like a long time, Prince Avalos considered the acceptance letter, the metal case and the strange shimmering metal-like disks that no longer contained the information it once did. True to the warning, the data upon them had faded into obscurity after he'd finished reading its contents.

The weight of his new future upon his shoulders kept him sober and thoughtful. There was not much to be done in preparation for his new life. There was no need to hurry to gather belongings or inform loved ones of his departure. For one, his belongings were not allowed to come with him. For another, he had no loved ones that could care, even if he were allowed to tell.

Picking up the letter once more he released a steadying breath and placed it inside the metal case. The disks he also placed inside, as well as the paper packet. He would study the packet more in depth later. This was all he'd be taking with him. All other things would be provided for him at the academy.

The academy. Just because he'd been accepted to attend did not guarantee that he'd succeed there. Would he end up being a Chosen One by the alien league? Only a few selected, would be found worthy. Would he be one of them? Would he make the cut? Would he be good enough?

His serious lips turned down slightly as he mentally berated himself for wondering things beyond his control. Face the here and now Prince. He commanded himself. Whatever the future holds can be dealt with when it comes.

With that council given to himself he glanced to the door when a horn sounded. They were here. Looking around his home, probably for the very last time, he inhaled a tight breath, released it with determination and headed out the door. The metal case was in his hand. It was the only thing they'd allow him to keep.
